How do I know if I’m losing my hair?
Hair loss is one of the trickiest issues we face as hairdressers in my opinion. It is a sensitive topic, that requires a gentle approach. Now I’m no Trichologist or Dermatologist but I can definitely start you off in the right direction to see if you need to see one of these experts.
What are the first signs of hair loss?
The first signs of hair loss will depend on what kind of hair loss you are experiencing. The most common sign that I hear from my clients is noticing a significant increase in the amount of hair coming out when they brush and/or wash their hair. An increase in hair fall can be due to a number of reasons. Changes to hormone production (including postpartum), illness, genetic conditions and diet can all contribute to hair loss. The good news is, in a lot of cases, your hair thinning will stop and hair will return to its usual state.

How can I stop my hair falling out?
Stopping hair loss will depend on the reason why your hair is falling out in the first place. If you are noticing bald patches, or distinct areas of thinning the best course of action is to speak to a medical professional to ensure there are no underlying conditions causing your hair loss. But if you are experiencing minor hair loss, using a shampoo or product that promotes scalp and hair follicle health will assist your hair growth, and get your hair back to its best self quickly.
There are a number of brands that specialise in hair regrowth. Here at Bach Hair, we recommend Nioxin. Nioxin is the #1 professional brand targeting thinning and hair loss. All of their products are clinically tested and contain high quality, science backed ingredients that will nourish, protect and strengthen your scalp and hair strands. How long will it take for my hair to grow back?
The million dollar question! The answer will be different for everyone. For some, with more specific issues, the answer is sadly never, although the hair loss can often be slowed or stopped with help from a medical professional. But for most with minor hair loss issues, you should start to see some growth in a matter of weeks! Hair tends to grow approximately 1cm every 4-6 weeks. Ever noticed a ‘halo’ of fluffy hairs on your head? That’s new growth! While it might feel like that’s not quick enough to notice a difference, that new growth is giving you volume at your roots. Combined with a fresh hair cut and a top notch home hair routine, you will be enjoying full, luscious locks before you know it.
